Dallas Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Dallas - Essay Example The city was under both the Spanish and French colonial governments before boundaries placed it under Spain. This adds to its great historical background and makes it unique and a tourist favorite. The planning of the city is done extremely well, with the buildings well arranged and the roads and streets offer easy navigation through the city. Although it lacks a navigable link to the sea, the scenery in Dallascity is just irresistible; the Trinity River winds itself through the city and serves as an ideal position to view the sunset either on the ferry or on the shores before it disappears into Houston (Hanson 68). Dubbed the romantic spot, couples always gather on the shores of this river and just sink into each other’s eyes while enjoying the beautiful environment around them. White Rock Lake is another beautiful area to visit in Dallas. It is a water reservoir where families go to spend their weekends and free time. Activities such as boating, rowing, jogging, and biking all serve as a means of entertainment to the people. There is also an Arboretum and Botanical garden located to the east shore of the lake that provide good relaxing places and serve as a tourist at traction sites (Hanson 21). Dallas has a humid subtropical climate, which favors most of the best outdoor activities. For instance, during the summer, the city records very high temperatures that range between 38 and 42 degree Celsius, which are favorable for swimming, and other water activities (Hanson 22). Winters in Dallas are mild warm with lots of snow rising up to 1.5 inches off the ground. Spring and autumn bring the most pleasant weather with the showing of wild flower that beautifully colors the environment (Hanson 22). A staple in Dallas is the Chilean Sea Bass on Lobster Risotto. This dish has gained recognition around the world due to its effect on the taste buds, and you simply cannot visit Dallas without paying a visit to one of the steakhouses

Management Accounting and the Environment Essay

Management Accounting and the Environment - Essay Example There are different approaches which help to identify the future goals of Charity organizations and detect the threats. Accountants' examination of Charity organizations gives useful insights into the nature of strategy itself. Management accountancy in Charity organizations is normally associated with more rational approaches to reporting. Perhaps its greatest contribution lies in providing the management accountant strategist a broad framework for analysing the position of organizations at a particular moment in time. It can also be useful in the development of a number of strategic options which attempt to tackle opportunities and threats, build on corporate strengths and avoid weaknesses. An important consideration is that for most management there is a choice of strategy (Collins, Davies, Weetman, 1992). New environment needs the approach based upon the assumption that information is readily available to the accountants and an accurate assessment can be made of its likely impact on organizations. This is not always the case and the entire process is subject to behavioural influences. The so-called rational techniques have been criticized as 'pseudo-science'. Nonetheless this is the basic approach used by many researchers (Kirkham, Loft, 1993). In the 1980s the emergence of an increasingly complex and turbulent business environment called for modifications in the rational approach. The environment plays an important role for charitable organizations, because there are more groups for whom the financial records are of potential interest. These groups include paid staff, volunteers, beneficiaries, donors (including grant making trusts), institutional and corporate funders, government departments, rating authorities, The Charity Commission, the press and the public as well as the Inland Revenue and HM Customs and Excise. As a result of this Charity Accounts can be subject to more requirements than private sector organisations of equivalent size (Parker, 2001). In the light of this it is possible to distinguish three main functions of accountants: the raising of funds or financial management; the contribution of accounting to management control and decision-making; and the function of financial reporting. Accountants in Charitable organizations need to prepare and maintain accounting records. These records must be retained for at least six years (at least three years in the case of charitable companies), and make the accounts available to the public on request. In charitable organizations accounts can be prepared using one of two bases: receipts and payments basis which consists of an account summarising all money received and paid out by the charity in the year in question, and a statement giving details of its assets and liabilities at the end of the year. "Accruals basis contains a balance sheet showing the charity's financial position at the end of the year in question, a statement of financial activities (SOFA) during the year and explanatory notes. They, in accountancy terms, should give a "true and fair view" (Sayer, 1998). Recent years accounting has been seen as a management function which obtains influenced significantly by those who prepare and

Beautiful Boy by David Shelf

Beautiful Boy by David Sheff 1. Sheff intrigued me with his story just by the back of the book. The entire story is about his eldest son, Nic, who is an amazing student as a child; however, his childhood begins to fade when he gets into the life of drugs and alcohol. The experiences and hardships that the author goes through is very emotional which really kept me reading. 2. The setting affects the author and his story. The book takes place in modern day times as in 2008.This impacts the author and his experiences because this is the time where drugs became more known and they were easy to get which made it harder for Nic, David Sheff’s son, to stop the drug abuse. 3. The themes in this book are patience and faith. David must be patient towards the recovery of his son’s drug addiction. He knows that this process cannot happen over-night no matter how hard he wishes it could be that easy. He waits patiently for Nic to get better. Nic, however, goes through rough patches while on this journey to succession, but his father always has faith in him.I think that David and Nic’s experiences were incredibly traumatic. Sheff felt the pain that his son went through while being an addict and felt the need to share it with others. Another reason Sheff might have wanted to share this experience is because he wanted to show the difficulty and how bad it is to take drugs. 4. â€Å"When Nic was growing up, I thought I would be content with whatever choices he made in his life†¦ Now I live with the knowledge that, never mind the most modest definition of a normal or healthy life, my son may not make it to twenty-one†(195-196).This proves the understanding that David has over his son’s life and that even though he believed at one point that Nic’s decisions will be made by himself, Nic has not made all the right decisions. This proved to David that his son needs guidance through out his whole life because once you are a father you ar e always a father. I chose this passage because this to me is David Sheff’s entire understanding of his son and this memoir. It shows that he understands what it means to be a father and what his role is 5.If I could meet the author I would feel a little nervous. I would feel uncomfortable asking him any questions because I wouldn’t know how he would react: would he get emotional? Would he get annoyed? Would he act fine because he gets questions all the time. A hypothetical meeting with David Sheff is if he came to my school to talk about drug and alcohol addiction and how it impacted his life and others around him. A question I might ask is when did you realize that your son was not a casual user, but was an addict? What was your immediate reaction? I would talk about the impact on his family, siblings and friends. I would ask about whom his friends were and if they were older because of the drug use. I would ask how he had the money for the drugs. A story of my own th at I would share with the author is about a kid that I know that ended up not being able to go to college. All of a sudden he began going to rehab and no one knew why. As time went on people began to realize that he did drugs and drank a lot.He became banned form school grounds for a certain amount of time. He was supposed to go off to college, but ended up not because he got in trouble with the law and had separation anxiety. His younger sister had to deal with the fights at home and her brother that she loved very much. I would share this story with Sheff to show that even though this story is not about my family or me, my family was one of the people impacted by this child’s actions.

There is an impressive array of businesses out there today that will handle any and all aspects of a companys human resources department tasks. The service and consulting businesses that handle outsourced human resource activities range from the very basic to service packages that practically become a subdivision of the business. Payroll outsourcing is an offsite service that has been available for years. Accounting and some benefits administration have also been jobbed out as a matter of course, particularly with medium sized businesses. Today, however, there are full-service human resources service providers that literally do it all. Many of them include in their service keeping one or more of their employees on site to handle any sort of personnel issue that comes up benefits questions, paid time off, workmans compensation and so forth. A full service human resources management firm will typically posture their role as partnering with the client company to increase the business efficiency and accordingly, impact the bottom line. Some companies actually take on the workers as employees, and lease them to the client business. .u4536c2a0f49815d8d2eeaa4491884e3f { padding:0px; margin: 0; padding-top:1em!important; padding-bottom:1em!important; width:100%; display: block; font-weight:bold; background-color:#eaeaea; border:0!important; border-left:4px solid #34495E!important; box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -o-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); text-decoration:none; } .u4536c2a0f49815d8d2eeaa4491884e3f:active, .u4536c2a0f49815d8d2eeaa4491884e3f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; text-decoration:none; } .u4536c2a0f49815d8d2eeaa4491884e3f { transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; } .u4536c2a0f49815d8d2eeaa4491884e3f .ctaText { font-weight:bold; color:inherit; text-decoration:none; font-size: 16px; } .u4536c2a0f49815d8d2eeaa4491884e3f .post Title { color:#000000; text-decoration: underline!important; font-size: 16px; } .u4536c2a0f49815d8d2eeaa4491884e3f:hover .postTitle { text-decoration: underline!important; } READ Earning a Bachelor's Degree in Paralegal StudiesAn HR management firm will develop a compensation and benefits structure for its client business. Kids Activity Make Your Own Metal Detector at Home

Any child who has seen a metal detector in action knows how exciting it is when you find some buried treasure. Whether it’s real treasure or just a coin that fell out of someone’s pocket, its a source of excitement that can be harnessed for learning. But professional-grade metal detectors and even build-your-own metal detector kits can be expensive. You may be surprised to learn that your child can make her metal detector with just a few, easy-to-find items. Try this experiment! What Your Child Will Learn Through this activity, she will gain a simple understanding of how radio signals work. Learning how to amplify those sound waves results in a basic metal detector. What Youll Need A small, battery-powered portable radio with AM and FM bandsA small, battery-operated calculator (not a solar-powered one)Working batteries for both devicesDuct tape How to Make Your Own Metal Detector Switch the radio to the AM band and turn it on. It’s likely your child hasnt seen a portable radio before, so let her examine it, play with the dials and see how it works. Once she’s ready, explain to her that a radio has two frequencies: AM and FM.Explain that AM is the abbreviation for the â€Å"amplitude modulation† signal, a signal that combines audio and radio frequencies to create a sound signal. Since it uses both audio and radio, it’s very prone to interference, or signal blocking. This interference is not optimal when it comes to playing music, but its a great asset for a metal detector.Turn the dial as far to the right as possible, making sure to find only static and not music. Next, turn up the volume as high as you can stand it.Hold the calculator up to the radio so that they are touching. Align the battery compartments in each device so that they are back-to-back. Turn on the calculator.Next, holding the calculator and radio together, find a m etal object. If the calculator and radio are aligned correctly, you will hear a change in the static that sounds sort of like a beeping sound. If you don’t hear this sound, slightly adjust the position of the calculator on the back of the radio until you do. Then, move away from the metal, and the beeping sound should revert to static. Tape the calculator and the radio together in that position with the duct tape. How Does It Work? At this point, youve made a basic metal detector, but you and your child may still have some questions. This is a great learning opportunity. Start the conversation by asking her some questions, such as: What type of things does the metal detector react strongly to?Which things don’t cause a reaction? Why wouldnt this work if the radio was playing music instead of static? The explanation is that the circuit board of the calculator emits a barely detectable radio frequency. Those radio waves bounce off metal objects and the AM band of the radio picks up and amplifies them. That’s the sound you’re hearing when you get close to metal. Music being transmitted over the radio would be too loud for us to hear the radio signal interference.

What Is the Purpose of the ‘Speech of the Laws’, in...

Political Philosophy What is the purpose of the ‘speech of the laws’, in Plato’s Crito? How is it related to Crito’s political opinions and preferences as expressed in this dialogue? The ‘speech of the laws’ as witnessed in Plato’s Crito is of utmost importance to one of Plato’s shorter dialogues and serves multiple purposes, some of which will be engaged with here. The speech will be looked in terms of its methodological purpose and will question what functions this serves. Philosophically speaking the Crito remains a dialogue concerning justice and the ‘speech of the laws’ provides a different interpretation of the concept of justice to that of which the character of Crito holds. The conflict between the ‘speech of the laws’ and Crito†¦show more content†¦Crito expounds an almost subjective approach to what justice is and what the right thing to do is. Some of Crito’s arguments in the dialogue as to why escaping prison is favourable to death are: 1. If Socrates is put to death; Crito will lose a friend who is irreplaceable. 2. The many will not look kindly on the character of Crito as they would view him as a man who forsakes his friends. 3. If Socrates dies, Crito and Socrates’ other friends may be put in danger from their perceived lack of action. Throughout this exchange Crito lets it be known that himself and Socrates’ other friends have sufficient funds available to bribe anybody who threatens either theirs or Socrates’ well-being. This is evidenced by the very fact that Crito has bribed a guard in the prison to be able to converse with Socrates in the first place. Although Socrates is able to refute these concerns of Crito quite easily that is not the point. The point is that behind all of Crito’s given reasons as to why Socrates should escape, it is the figure of Crito, not Socrates, as the one who is being harmed by the ultimate finale of Socrates’ execution. A great deal of irony exists in this exchange also. Crito is so blinded by his subjective notions of what justice is that he advocates and actually carries out the act of the bribery of officials without either realizing or consciously acknowledging that this is breaking the law. This irony is almost humorous by the fact that what the two men areShow MoreRelatedWhat is the purpose of the ‚Äà ²speech of the laws‚Äà ´, in Plato‚Äà ´s Crito?
